What happens if I do not pass on the first attempt?

You get up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. If you do not pass in three attempts, PMI requires you to wait one year from the date of your last exam before reapplying, although you may apply for another PMI certification during that year. What is the PMP exam format?

The PMP exam has 180 questions with an allotted time of 240 minutes (4 hours). Of those, 170 are scored and 10 are unscored pretest questions placed at random, which do not affect your result. Two 10-minute breaks are provided: the first after the case study section, the second about midway through the independent questions. The optional tutorial and survey are not counted in the 240 minutes. The 2026 exam uses case or scenario questions and graphic-based questions, both new in 2026, alongside multiple-choice single response, multiple-response and matching questions. Enhanced matching and point-and-click (hotspot) questions are available at test centers only. You can sit the exam at a Pearson VUE test center or online proctored.

Which domains does the exam cover and what are the weights?

The PMP exam covers three domains. In PMI's Examination Content Outline (July 2026) they are weighted People 33%, Process 41% and Business Environment 26%. People spans 8 tasks covering shared vision, conflict, team leadership, stakeholder engagement and communication. Process spans 10 tasks covering integrated planning, scope, value-based delivery, resources, procurement, finance, quality, schedule, project status and closure. Business Environment spans 8 tasks covering governance, compliance, change control, impediments, risk, continuous improvement, organizational change and external business environment changes. Business Environment rose from 8% to 26% in the 2026 update, the largest single change to the exam.

What is the passing score for the PMP exam?

PMI does not publish a passing score or a fixed pass percentage for the PMP exam. Results are reported as pass or fail with performance feedback by domain, so aim for broad competence across all three domains rather than a target percentage.

Where can I sit the exam in Los Angeles?

You can take it at a Pearson VUE test center or online from home or the office through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctored system. Which edition of the PMBOK Guide is the course based on?

The courseware is built around the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition, which is the reference standard for the updated PMP Exam Content Outline, and it also draws on PMI's Agile Practice Guide for the agile and hybrid material.

Does the course cover agile, or only traditional project management?

It covers both, and that is deliberate. The exam covers three domains - People 33%, Process 41% and Business Environment 26%. You work through Scrum, Kanban, lean and XP practices as well as critical path, earned value and integrated change control.
