    You should have a 4-year degree (a bachelor’s degree or the global equivalent) followed by a minimum of three years of project management experience which should cover a minimum of 4,500 project management hours. You don’t need to have the designation of a project manager per se, but experience in managing and leading projects. You must also have 35 hours of project management education, which you can acquire from PMP institutes.

    You should have a secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree or global equivalent) followed by 5 years of project management experience which should cover 7,500 hours of project management experience. You must also have 35 hours of project management education, which you can acquire from PMP institutes.

    You will need to submit documented proof for each of these requirements when applying for the PMP certification, and each criterion must be met before you apply for the exam.

  2. PMP Certification Training

  3. Apply for the Examination

    • Log in to pmi.org and apply for the examination
    • You may have to wait for up to 5 days to receive a response
    • Pay the examination fee, which is $405 for members and $555 for non-members

    • You will have 4 hours to answer 200 multiple-choice questions
    • If you fail, you can retake the examination by paying a retake fee of $275 for members and $375 for non-members. You can make a maximum of 3 attempts to pass the exam within the 1 year period
    • If you pass, you will receive the results and your PMP certification

    The online exam is the same as the test centre version: similar quality, the same questions and a live proctor. The only difference? You can take it in your pajamas.   5. Renewal and Maintenance of the Credentials

    Here obtaining the certification is a bigstep, and maintaining it shouldn’t have to be, with the Continuing Certification Requirements Program, and this program is designed to grow and develop the skills that organizations are seeking. In order to maintain your PMP certification status, you must ensure to earn 60 PDUs every three years. You must report these to PMI via the link pmi.org, and you also need to pay a renewal fee of $60 for members and $150 for non-members.

After clearing the necessary eligibility requirements for the PMP Certification, including the 35 hours of training/learning, the application process can be started. Where the audit will take place, and a candidate has to pay the exam fee. This could take anywhere between 5 days to 3 months. In short, getting a PMP certification can take up to 8-10 weeks, including the preparation and PMP Certification training.

The eligibility criteria clearly state that a candidate must have project management experience. So, unfortunately, a candidate cannot get a PMP Certification without experience. But a little relaxation in qualifications is overwhelming. A high school diploma holder can also appear for the certification after completing the other eligibility requirements.

The most important thing to consider with the PMBOK® Guide - 7th edition is that it does not make any impact on the PMP Exam Prep Training material. The training material is solely based to cater the PMP exam content outline which was reconstructed in January 2021, and covers the new domains i.e people, processes, and business environment along with the tasks and enablers in respective domains.
