Why Portfolio Leaders Are in Demand Across Washington DC

    Federal Modernization at Scale

Federal agencies run sprawling IT and digital modernization programs, but many lack a strategy-aligned portfolio layer to prioritize and sequence them, the exact gap PfMP is built to close.

PfMP builds strategic alignment and governance skills

    Budget Scrutiny and Capital Efficiency

Tighter federal and corporate budgets push organizations to cut low-value work and rebalance spend to strategy, work that credentialed portfolio leaders are hired to lead.

    PfMP builds portfolio optimization skills

    Defense and Security Portfolios

Defense, aerospace and national security programs demand portfolio-grade risk aggregation and governance across many concurrent, high-stakes initiatives.

PfMP builds portfolio risk and coordination skills

    Governance Gaps in Contracting

Contractors deliver hundreds of concurrent government projects, yet weak portfolio governance causes value leakage that PfMP-trained leaders are equipped to fix.

PfMP builds prioritization and value-realization skills

    Portfolio Talent Scarcity

The DC market is deep in PMP project managers but thin in credentialed portfolio leaders. PfMP's advanced eligibility and panel review make holders rare and sought-after.

PfMP makes certified portfolio leaders stand out

    Strategy-To-Execution Gap

Leadership approves ambitious strategies, but weak links to the funded program mix stall outcomes, so employers now seek leaders who align portfolios to strategy.

    Pricing

Is PfMP training a good investment?

For senior professionals in Washington DC, PfMP can unlock roles such as Head of PMO and PMO Director, which pay well above general program roles in the region. The training builds the governance and strategy skills employers pay for. Request a quote to see options and value inclusions.

How much does PfMP training cost in Washington DC?

Training fees vary by format (live online, classroom or corporate) and are available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately in USD and is not part of the training fee. Contact a learning advisor for a tailored quote and upcoming batches.

What is included in the PfMP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, exam simulator access, downloadable templates, PfMP application and panel-review support, learner support, and a course completion certificate with contact hours.

How much is the PfMP exam fee?

For reference, the PfMP exam fee is around USD 800 for PMI members and USD 1,000 for non-members; verify current figures at pmi.org, as prices vary and change. PMI individual membership is about USD 139 per year and reduces the exam fee and renewal costs.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customized schedules and volume-based pricing for PMOs, business units and leadership teams. Ask about corporate or group pricing for a tailored quote.

    Exam

What if I do not pass the PfMP exam the first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Reexamination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our training includes mock exams, an exam simulator and targeted revision support to help you prepare thoroughly before you sit the exam.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The PfMP exam has 170 multiple-choice questions and a total allotted time of four hours (240 minutes). It is closed book and delivered as a computer-based test with scenario and situational questions.

What are the PfMP exam domains and their weights?

The exam covers five performance domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%), as set out in the PfMP Examination Content Outline.

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is determined through psychometric analysis, and performance is reported as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement per domain, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to PfMP. A panel of portfolio management practitioners evaluates your documented experience and competency. It is a mandatory step in addition to the written exam, and both must be passed to earn the credential.

Where can I take the PfMP exam?

You can take the exam online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctored system or at a Pearson VUE test center, including locations in and around Washington DC. Scheduling is done through PMI's portal or the Pearson VUE website within your eligibility period.

    Course Content

Can I take PfMP training without a portfolio background?

Anyone can attend the training, which builds structured understanding of portfolio management from the ground up. Note that sitting the PfMP exam requires PMI's experience prerequisites, so the training is best suited to experienced professionals moving toward the credential.

What topics are covered in the PfMP training?

The training covers all five PfMP performance domains: Strategic Alignment, Governance, Portfolio Performance, Portfolio Risk Management and Communications Management, plus guidance on the PfMP application, panel review and exam strategy.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest standard?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to PMI's Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PfMP Examination Content Outline, so you study against the framework the exam is built on.

What learning resources and materials are provided?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware, references to the PfMP Examination Content Outline and Handbook, a Standard for Portfolio Management overview, templates, flashcards and chapter-wise quizzes to support your preparation.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The program includes 1000+ practice questions, full-length mock exams, an exam simulator and topic-wise quizzes to help you identify weak areas and build readiness across all five domains.

Will I receive a certificate of completion?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the contact hours (PDUs) earned through the program, which also support your PMI application.

    Enrollment

How soon can I start and how do I enroll?

We offer PfMP training online (live virtual) instructor-led sessions, classroom training, self-paced e-learning, and customized corporate group training, so you can choose the format that fits your schedule and learning style.

What are the eligibility requirements to sit the exam?

PfMP has three qualification sets. All require 120 months (10 years) of business experience within the last 15 years, plus portfolio management experience (84 months with a secondary diploma, 48 months with a bachelor's degree, or 36 months with a GAC-accredited degree), and a panel review.

Can I reschedule or transfer my enrollment?
