What if I do not pass the PfMP exam the first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Reexamination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our training includes mock exams, an exam simulator and targeted revision support to help you prepare thoroughly before you sit the exam.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The PfMP exam has 170 multiple-choice questions and a total allotted time of four hours (240 minutes). It is closed book and delivered as a computer-based test with scenario and situational questions.

What are the PfMP exam domains and their weights?

The exam covers five performance domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%), as set out in the PfMP Examination Content Outline.

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is determined through psychometric analysis, and performance is reported as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement per domain, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to PfMP. A panel of portfolio management practitioners evaluates your documented experience and competency. It is a mandatory step in addition to the written exam, and both must be passed to earn the credential.

Where can I take the PfMP exam?

You can take the exam online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctored system or at a Pearson VUE test center, including locations in and around Washington DC. Scheduling is done through PMI's portal or the Pearson VUE website within your eligibility period.

Can I take PfMP training without a portfolio background?

Anyone can attend the training, which builds structured understanding of portfolio management from the ground up. Note that sitting the PfMP exam requires PMI's experience prerequisites, so the training is best suited to experienced professionals moving toward the credential.
