The PfMP exam is a computer-based, closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario and situational questions across five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The PfMP exam has 170 multiple-choice questions, and you have four hours to complete it. It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test center.

What are the PfMP exam domains and their weights?

The exam covers five domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%). Focus on broad mastery across all five.

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is determined through psychometric analysis, and performance is reported by domain as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement across the five domains.

What happens if I do not pass the first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period, so a first-time result is not the end of the road. Reexamination fees apply to the second and third attempts, and our prep resources and trainer support help you close gaps before you retake.
