The PfMP exam is a computer-based, closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario and situational questions across five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 170 questions in a four-hour (240-minute) allotted time. It is delivered through Pearson VUE, either at a test center or via OnVUE online proctoring.

What are the five PfMP exam domains and their weights?

The five domains are Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%), as defined in the PfMP Examination Content Outline.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to PfMP. A panel of portfolio management practitioners evaluates your documented portfolio experience and competency. Both the panel review and the written exam must be passed to earn the credential.

What is the passing score, and what if I do not pass the first time?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score rather than a fixed percentage, and results are reported by domain. You get up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period; reexamination fees apply to the second and third attempts.
