What is the next step after CSM?

The Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (A-CSM) is the next level in the Scrum Alliance Scrum Master track. CSM is the mandatory prerequisite, and A-CSM also requires at least 12 months in a Scrum Master role after earning CSM.

How many questions are on the CSM exam?

The exam has 50 multiple-choice questions with a 60-minute time limit. It is taken online without a proctor once your course is complete.

What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

You need 74% to pass, which means answering at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly.

How many attempts do I get for the exam?

Candidates typically have three attempts to pass within 90 days of completing the course. If you do not pass at first, you can use the additional attempts within that window.

Is attending a course mandatory for the CSM exam?

Yes. Attendance at an approved CSM course delivered by a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) is mandatory. The exam cannot be accessed without completing the course.

What topics does the CSM course cover?

The course covers six areas of the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives: Scrum Theory and Principles, Scrum Values, the Scrum Team, Scrum Events, Scrum Artifacts, and the Scrum Master Role, all aligned to the current Scrum Guide.

Can a beginner take this course?

Yes. CSM is designed for those new to Scrum as well as practitioners formalizing their knowledge. There are no prerequisites, and the trainer guides you through the framework with practical examples.

Will I learn to facilitate Scrum events?

Yes. You will learn to facilitate all five Scrum events, the Sprint, Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review and Sprint Retrospective, within their timeboxes, plus retrospective and facilitation techniques.

What learning materials are provided?

You receive Scrum Alliance-aligned courseware, industry case studies illustrating Scrum Master facilitation and coaching, and practice support to prepare for the online exam.

How long is the CSM course?

The CSM course is a 16-hour program, delivered as two full days or four half-days depending on the schedule, meeting Scrum Alliance course requirements.
