How many questions are on the CSM exam and how long is it?

The CSM exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and a 60-minute time limit. It is taken online without a proctor within 90 days of completing your approved course.

What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

You need 74% to pass, which means answering at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly. The exam tests knowledge and comprehension across Scrum theory, values, the team, events, artifacts and the Scrum Master role.

What if I do not pass the CSM exam the first time?

Candidates typically have up to three attempts to pass within 90 days of course completion. Your course preparation and open-book format make a first-attempt pass very achievable. Verify the current attempt policy at scrumalliance.org.

Do I need to attend a course to take the CSM exam?

Yes. Attending an approved CSM course delivered by a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Trainer is mandatory. The exam cannot be accessed without completing the course, and self-study alone does not qualify.

What topics does the CSM training cover?

The training covers six areas: Scrum theory and principles, the five Scrum values, the Scrum Team, the five Scrum events, the three Scrum artifacts, and the Scrum Master role, all aligned to the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide.
