What is the format of the CSM exam?

The CSM exam is an online, open-book, multiple-choice test taken through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete an approved course. It covers Scrum theory, values, the team, events, artifacts and the Scrum Master role.

How many questions are on the CSM exam and how long is it?

The CSM exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and a 60-minute time limit. It is taken online without a proctor within 90 days of completing your CSM course.

What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

You need 74% to pass, which is 37 correct answers out of 50. The exam is open book, so you can refer to your materials while you answer.

What if I do not pass the CSM exam the first time?

You typically have up to three attempts to pass within 90 days of course completion, and our training and practice questions are built to prepare you for a first-attempt pass. Verify the current attempt policy with Scrum Alliance.

How and when do I take the CSM exam?

After you complete the CSM course, Scrum Alliance unlocks the online exam in your member portal. You have 90 days to sit it, and you can take it from home or the office with no proctor required.

Do I need experience to take CSM training?

No. CSM has no formal education or work-experience prerequisite, so beginners are welcome. Attending an approved course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer is the only requirement to sit the exam.

What topics does the CSM training cover?

Training covers all six Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives areas: Scrum theory and principles, the five Scrum values, the Scrum team, the Scrum events, the Scrum artifacts, and the Scrum Master role.

How long is the CSM training?

The CSM course is a 16-hour program, delivered as two full days or four half-days, which meets Scrum Alliance's minimum contact-hour requirement. It is led by a Certified Scrum Trainer.
