Scrum is a very popular and well-known method for Agile software development. A few years ago, 5 Scrum Values were introduced and each member of the team uses these values to direct their decision-making. Not many people know and appreciate these principles, but they are crucial to the effective implementation of the Scrum, and they deserve to be expanded on the significance of these principles.

Everyone focuses on the work of the Sprint and the objectives of the Scrum Team. Focus is essential when dealing with complexity and unpredictability in order to get anything meaningful done. Since we concentrate on just a few things at a time, we produce the most important products faster. The Scrum framework includes elements that help promote focus.

We need to ensure that customers, are happy with our service. In order to satisfy the customers we need to deliver quality results within the timeframe that is allotted to us with full focus.


Scrum team members must be committed to progress and be able to set achievable goals and stick to them. Every scrum job is dedicated to the success of the team, not just to caring for our individual accomplishments, building an atmosphere of confidence, constructive problem-solving, and high team standards.

Please ensure that you stick to your commitment and do not commit yourself to something if you don’t understand. If you have promised to deliver the goods within a specific time, please ensure you live up to your words. Kindly refrain from giving false promises just because you agreed upon something in front of your superior or supervisor.


As self-organizing teams, we cannot do without respect for each other, so that we can foster a dedicated, fruitful, and humane atmosphere for everyone. The Scrum structure contains elements that help to foster respect.

It is essential to lead from the front. But please ensure that you are helping the team in order for them to gain the essential knowledge and also avoid finding flaws.


Scrum’s empiricism needs honesty, accountability by making our jobs, our success, our learning, and our problems are known. The team should be open to collaboration across disciplines and expertise, collaboration with stakeholders and the broader world, to exchanging input and learning from each other.

You need to make sure that you inform everyone about the task that is allotted to you rather than highlighting the challenges and problems you are facing which is preventing you from accomplishing your goal.


The members of the Scrum Team have the courage to do the right thing and to work on tough issues. The team members help each other in doing the right thing and taking educated chances so that we can learn and develop our journey to greatness.

Courage plays an essential role in solving complex matters. Generally, it requires a lot of courage to be transparent about progress under pressure. We need to seek help from our peers if we are finding the work complex. We need to talk to the customers in order to know what they are looking for so that we don’t get misguided and misled. We need to ensure we keep the customers happy. It requires a lot of courage to own up our mistakes.

The Three Pillars of Scrum

The three pillars of Scrum Framework are:

  • Transparency
  • Inspections
  • Adaptation


Scrum promotes transparency, for example, a common language referring to the process should be shared by all the participants.


Scrum artifacts need to be frequently scrutinized. The frequency of inspection should not hinder our daily work. Inspection is the key when it’s performed by skilled or professional inspectors.


During an audit, if a quality inspector determines that one or more aspects of a process deviate the acceptable limits, then an adjustment needs to be done to minimize the unwanted deviation.

A scrum team needs three specific roles namely product owner, scrum master, and development team.

Thus, Scrum can help to establish psychological protection through its great values through the use of retrospectives to tease ideas for change. The scrum master should ensure that these ideas and values gain momentum because if they don’t work, then the team will lose faith. 

In addition, the Scrum Master needs to communicate with the team and the product owner to ensure that there is space for spikes and inquiries in the sprint backlog. This helps to establish an atmosphere in which experimentation is reasonable and failed experiments are accepted.
